Home Remedies To Get Rid Of Head Lice

Millions of people get lice infestation each year. Most of these are children that go to school. Parents should be aware that this kind of parasites can transfer from one person to the other even through a single contact with the hair. These pesky creatures can even fly themselves over your head without you knowing it. And if you suspect that you or your child has contracted it, here some ideas you can do to get rid of it.

Suffocate The Lice

There are numerous ways to do this. One famous way is to apply mayonnaise all over your head. This innocent looking condiment actually works well with lice infestation. Just prepare a handful amount of it. Apply liberally all over your hair and scalp. Leave it on for at least an hour and cover your head with a shower cap to maximize the effects.

Another way is to apply coconut oil. This kind of oil is thick enough to suffocate the lice but is still very friendly for the skin. Apply ample amount from your scalp up to the tips. As with the mayo, you need to let it sit there for at least an hour and cover your head with shower cap. If you don’t have any of the above mentioned things, then you can use petroleum jelly. You must do the same process, applying ample amount over your hair. After which, use a knit comb to glide over your hair, this will ensure that the dead lice and their eggs will go down the drain. Then wash your hair with your favorite shampoo. Doing this for three consecutive days should solve your woes.

Vinegar Is Very Helpful

Vinegar is good addition for the dishes but it can also kill a lot of lice on your head. Just like with any organism, these parasites need to eat to survive. And their source is the blood on your head. When you apply vinegar over your scalp and hair, it will also expose the lice into it. This will make it difficult for the lice to feed and eventually will get tired of hanging on the skin.

To some extent, it will also suffocate them. To do this, you need to prepare one teaspoon of white vinegar and add it to a cup of warm water. The amount you are going to prepare should depend on your hair’s length. Now, apply the solution covering every strand and your entire scalp. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes while covering your head with a shower cap. Wash your hair afterwards with shampoo and warm water to eliminate the odor.

Keep These Notes

Clean your children beddings carefully when you know he or she has lice infestation, sterilize it if you must.

Also, clean his or her personal stuff like combs or headband, wash it thoroughly. These things can harbor the eggs which can transfer into their heads. Vacuum the pillows as well. Also, change their towel regularly to make things easier to monitor overall.
